How to Prepare for Your First Boudoir Session: The Complete Timeline
A calm, step-by-step roadmap from 7 days out to the morning of your shoot—so you arrive feeling nourished, grounded, and ready to be celebrated.
“The days leading up to your boudoir session should never feel like a stressful checklist. They are the beginning of the ceremony—an intentional invitation to slow down, hydrate your skin, and turn your attention back to yourself.”
Almost every woman who books with Studio 3150 shares the exact same sensation in the week prior: a gentle flutter of anticipation, excitement, and natural vulnerability. Knowing what to do (and just as importantly, what not to do) removes all uncertainty, allowing you to walk through our studio doors relaxed and confident.
Below is our official 7-day preparation timeline curated by lead photographer Carmen Hernández and our styling team.
7 to 5 Days Out: Hydration & Gentle Skin Care
Radiant, supple skin on camera begins from the inside out. Starting one week prior, prioritize gentle nourishment:
3 to 2 Days Out: Grooming, Hair & Neutral Nails
Fine-art boudoir portraiture captures intimate close-ups of hands resting on lace, caressing collars, and running through hair. Polished grooming creates seamless elegance:
Manicure & Pedicure
Opt for neutral tones: soft blush, sheer nude, milky white, classic French, or clean buffed natural nails. Neutral tones complement every wardrobe change effortlessly.
Hair Removal / Waxing
If you choose to wax or shave, do so 48 to 72 hours prior to allow any minor redness, razor burn, or sensitivity to completely subside.
“You do not need to change your body, lose five pounds, or practice posing in front of a mirror. Carmen guides every angle, breath, and shoulder placement in real time.”

The Night Before: Wardrobe, Sleep & Elastic Care
A seamless morning starts with thoughtful preparation the evening prior:
- ✓ Hang Outfits on Hangers: Steaming or ironing your pieces and placing them on hangers prevents creases and saves time during styling.
- ✓ Pack Shoes & Accessories: Clean the soles of your favorite heels. Pack sentimental rings, earrings, pearls, or silk robes.
- ✓ Wash Hair the Day Before: Clean, fully dry hair from the evening before holds curls and editorial styling significantly better than freshly washed damp hair.
- ✓ Wear Loose Sleepwear: Sleep in loose, soft loungewear without tight elastic bands or underwire bras to prevent lingering red skin indentations in the morning.
The Morning Of: Arrival & Sensorial Pampering
Today is dedicated solely to you. Keep your morning routine minimal and peaceful:
1. Arrival Attire
Wear a loose button-down shirt, a wrap dress, or an oversized cardigan with sweatpants. Avoid tight bras or snug socks.
2. Clean Canvas
Arrive with a clean, freshly moisturized face (free of makeup, sunscreen, or heavy creams) and dry, un-styled hair. Our artist will take care of every lash, shadow, and wave.
3. Step Into the Sanctuary
Upon arrival at our private Silver Spring studio, you will be greeted with artisanal refreshments, warm hospitality, and your favorite music. Take a deep breath—you are in caring hands.
